Amityville Memorial High School’s Class of 2025 flies high

There was a sea of red caps and gowns as Amityville Memorial High School’s Class of 2025 held their commencement ceremony at the school’s gymnasium on June 28. 

During the ceremony, hundreds of graduates received diplomas and commendations for their hard work and dedication to their education and achievements. Valedictorian Jesus Barrios and Salutatorian Alessandra Pons addressed their fellow graduates and spoke about perseverance through challenging times. 

Also addressing the graduates were Amityville Memorial High School Principal Dr. John Cardone, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gina Talbert, Class President Adonis Lyons and Board of Education President Lisa Johnson. 

The district congratulates all members of the Class of 2025 and wishes them luck and happiness as they embrace the next step in life!

Amityville Memorial High School’s spring edition to Battle of the Classes

On June 16, students at Amityville Memorial High School filled the gymnasium during their spring edition to Battle of the Classes.
Emceed by senior Adonis Lyons, classes went head-to-head in a variety of games such as an obstacle course, potato sack race, musical chairs, a balloon pop relay, and tug-of-war. Classes from each grade level filled the bleachers as they proudly cheered on their respective classmates.
After a competitive afternoon of events, the seniors emerged as the winner of Battle of the Classes.

Amityville Memorial High School honors world languages scholars

On June 2, Amityville Memorial High School celebrated its exceptional bilingual and trilingual scholars during the school’s World Languages Achievements Ceremony.

Held in the high school’s auditorium, the high school honored students who were inducted to the 2024-25 National World Language Honor Society. The high school also recognized students who will obtain the New York State Seal of Biliteracy for the 2024-2025 school year. The state’s Seal of Biliteracy recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in English and one or more world languages. The ceremony was conducted in English, Spanish and French as inductees recited their oath during a candle-lighting ceremony.

Lastly, the high school’s National French Exam participants were honored for their proficiency in listening, vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension. Senior members received the medals and honor cords they will wear at their commencement ceremony.

Senator Martinez honors students at Amityville Memorial High School

On June 2, four Amityville Memorial High School students enjoyed an afternoon with State Sen. Monica R. Martinez.  

Earlier this year, tenth graders Abigail Brown, Cynai Gordon, Angie Ventura Melgar, and Maleek Solomon were named as winners in Senator Martinez’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay and Art contest. The contest was held in conjunction with Senator Martinez’s recognition of Black History Month. Participants were tasked with writing an essay or creating a work of art that pays tribute to those who continue to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy or demonstrates how we can build bridges between all communities. 

Senator Martinez met with the high school’s honorees to commend them, and she treated them to pizza and drinks. Additionally, she spoke to students about her career in politics.

Amityville Memorial High School holds a successful AP Capstone Fair

On May 30, Amityville Memorial High School’s AP Research scholars held presentations during their inaugural AP Capstone Fair. 

Held in the high school’s cafeteria, scholars shared the results of their year-long independent investigations with their teachers and the school’s principals. Additionally, AP Seminar students attended the fair to observe and engage with the presentations as part of their continued learning in the AP Capstone program. 

AP Capstone is a College Board program focused on developing students’ skills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing and presenting. It includes two courses: AP Seminar, where students explore real-world topics through various lenses, and AP Research, where students design, execute, and present a year-long research project.
